One ground,
two lives
On Saturdays the Weald is a cricket ground. The rest of the week it is a room with a bar and a view of the square, and it is available to hire.

A single open room with its own bar, looking out over the square. Suits birthdays, wakes, christenings, meetings and club functions.
Warm in winter, cool in summer
New flooring, heating, air conditioning and insulation went in during 2024, funded by a £32,000 UK Levelling Up grant, so the room works in December as well as July.

Staffed on request, or dry-hire if you would rather bring your own arrangements.
Step-free access
Disabled access was improved as part of the same 2024 refit, so the clubhouse and function room are reachable without steps.
The ground and square
Twelve acres of Weald Park either side of the pavilion, usable for marquees, photographs and outdoor events by arrangement.

Off-road parking beside the ground on Weald Road, a few minutes from Brentwood town centre.

The teams
Two Saturday XIs in the T. Rippon Mid Essex League, which runs twelve divisions and more than fifty clubs across the county, plus a midweek T20 team. All three take new players, and the 49’ers need no league registration.
1st XI
Brookweald 1st XI compete in Division 2 of the Mid Essex League. The team earned promotion last season after finishing 2nd in Division 3, delivering consistent performances across the campaign and securing a well-deserved step up.

Brookweald 2nd XI compete in Division 7 of the Mid Essex League. With a strong squad, the team are realistic contenders for promotion this season and will be pushing hard to secure a move up the divisions.

Where these numbers come from
The club runs on MVP Cricket, a club-management platform that syncs with Play-Cricket. Every scorecard we submit is turned into points across batting, bowling and fielding, so the table reads a season the way a captain sees it rather than the way a scorebook does. A player who takes three wickets and two catches shows up, not just the one who made runs.

Anthony Hill took 32 wickets at 13.41, nine more than anyone else and at a third off the club average. Saf Abbas made 632 runs at 63.20.

Since 1949
The club was founded on heathland in Weald Park that had been an army base through the war, and has played there ever since.
The ground
Local enthusiasts turn former army heathland in Weald Park into a cricket ground. The first pavilion is a salvaged prefabricated building.
The pavilion
A new pavilion designed by Arthur and Len Radley is opened by Sir Hubert Ashton, President of the M.C.C., and marked with a match against an Essex County XI.
The first silverware
The club’s first league honours, in the T. Rippon Mid Essex League. Brookweald finished joint champions of Division Five alongside Willowherbs CC, both ninety points clear of third. By June 2001 the team sat unbeaten at the top of Division Four, six wins from six and forty points clear.
The intake
Players arriving from May & Baker CC, and later from Chadwell Heath CC, build the playing membership into the three teams the club runs today.
The upgrade
A £32,000 UK Levelling Up grant pays for new flooring, heating, air conditioning and insulation at the clubhouse, step-free disabled access, and new practice nets.
To play cricket and run a club that predominantly was about looking after each other first during periods of unemployment, marriage break-ups etc, and losing wasn’t an issue so long as we enjoyed it.
Ray and a rebuilt committee took the club into the T. Rippon Mid Essex League with a single XI, and opened up membership so players could commit to a handful of games rather than a whole season. The club’s first league silverware followed.
