Brookweald 2nd XI traveled to the picturesque Mill Lane, home of Broomfield 2nd XI. With the weather set fair, Broomfield won the toss and decided to bat. Brookweald's opening pair of Hurrel and Crane continued their fine form, removing both Broomfield openers cheaply. Rathnayaka produced some lusty blows, which threatened to wrestle control away from the Weald. However, the innings was brought to an end by the ever-dependable Heppell for 35. Stubborn resistance by Broomfield's lower middle order from Baines and Baker moved the total along to what was thought to be an under-par 148 all out. Wolfe mopped up the tail with figures of 3/11 from 4 overs, and Climpson took 3 catches standing up behind the stumps.
Brookweald's innings started with both openers looking in relative control until Harvey was well caught off the bowling of Rathnayaka for 19. This triggered a mini-collapse, with Wolfe and Swettenham following soon after. Regular wickets continued to fall from some good, tight bowling from the young Broomfield attack, superbly led by the experienced Baker, who finished with 3/18 off his 9 overs. Broomfield's total was beginning to look just out of reach until the veteran Joyce started to feel "in". Joyce saw the Weald across the line with an unbeaten 45, ably supported by Falkingham and Hurrel.
