Brookweald 2nd XI vs Great Baddow CC, 2nd XI

Brookweald 2nd XI travelled to face Great Baddow 2nd XI at the Recreation Ground, looking for their first win of the season. Great Baddow skipper Haley won the toss and elected to bat on a fine early summer's day.

Immediately, the Brookweald opening pair of Hurrell (0/12) and Craine (2/10) kept things tight with some good line and length bowling. The Baddow batsmen found it hard to penetrate the inner ring and, with the slow outfield, had to work hard for runs in the early part of the innings.

Brookweald continued to keep things tight, and Swettenham (2/31), Yasin (2/24), Miles (2/18), and Forrest (1/17) all contributed in the bowling department, sharing the nine Baddow wickets pretty evenly. Only Burman and Austin posted any real resistance, with 28 and 20 respectively. The innings was wrapped up with Baddow posting an under-par 125/9 off the allotted 45 overs.

Wolfe and Harvey began the reply in quickfire fashion, racing to 31 before Harvey was given out playing an expansive sweep shot off the bowling of Parnell. Kumar and Wolfe continued scoring quickly and looked in control until Kumar was removed, with single figures needed, by Murray-Brown for an excellent 38. Wolfe once again carried his bat and hit the four that took Brookweald past the Baddow total for a well-deserved first win of the season in what was a much-improved Brookweald performance.
