Brookweald were the visitors to Snakes Lane on a fine but windy day for this 7th division match. South Woodham won the toss and elected to bat. Crane and Clarke shared a fine opening stand of 83, helped by poor catching by Brookweald, who shelled three catches off the miserly bowling of Hurrell. Crane went on to post a fine 66.
Adam Craine was thrown the ball by Brookweald skipper Wolfe. Craine produced an excellent spell of bowling to give Brookweald a foothold in the match, removing three of South Woodham's top order. He ended his spell with 3/28 off his 9 overs.
Ben Jackman came in and showed aggressive intent from the first ball of his innings. He put the Brookweald bowlers and fielders under immediate pressure with his running between the wickets. His superb 89 not out helped South Woodham to an imposing total of 295-6 off their 45 overs.
Brookweald's reply got off to a good start, with Wolfe and Biggs helping the score race along to 107-1. Biggs then chopped on from a ball that didn't get up on an otherwise decent wicket. Wolfe bravely carried the fight to South Woodham, with good support from Joyce (27). However, Wolfe was eventually dismissed four runs short of what would have been a magnificent century, and with it Brookweald's hopes of a first victory of the season were dashed.
South Woodham's bowlers kept Brookweald in check, with the wickets being shared by Bradley, Clarke and Pritchard, who took 3/22 off his 9 overs. Woodham completed what in the end was a comfortable victory.
