A green track awaited both teams in this T Rippon Essex League division 2 game between Broomfield and Brookweald. Broomfield won the toss and surprisingly decided to bat first. A decision that proved costly as Moiz and Hedges had Broomfield in trouble early. Quick wickets meant the home side never settled and were always on the back foot. A patient 41 from Pyne, with help from Baines (29) and an aggressive knock from Lyne (34), helped Broomfield to get a foothold in the game. Verna almost took a stunning hat-trick but was denied. Verna ended with 3 wickets in 7 balls to wrap up Broomfield's innings for a below-par 168.
Fisher (2/41) was thrown the new ball and tried his best to try and wrestle the momentum from Brookweald. However, an aggressive knock from Balraj (34) was followed by a classy knock from Finch (65* on his return to the team). Ali then decided that things were too slow for his liking and upped the pace to help Finch knock off the Broomfield total in short order to register Brookweald's 2nd win of the season.
