Club History

Brookweald through the years

Cricket roots, local identity, and a steady evolution into a modern community club.

1949 - 1970

Club foundations

Founded in 1949 by local cricket enthusiasts who transformed heathland in Weald Park - formerly an army base during the war - into our beloved cricket ground. Our first pavilion was a salvaged prefabricated building from the early 1950s. By 1960, a new pavilion designed by Arthur and Len Radley was constructed using subcontractors and volunteer labour. Sir Hubert Ashton, President of the M.C.C., officially opened the pavilion in 1962, celebrated with a match against Essex County Cricket Club XI.

2000 - 2020

The ups & downs

In the 2000s, Brookweald was strengthened by the arrival of players from May & Baker CC and in the the late 2010's and influx of players from Chadwell Heath CC further strengthened the club playing members creating the thriving club we have today. Our mission remains steadfast: to promote cricket among local youth and provide enjoyment for all Weald Park visitors.
